Peter Pops Off On BET
Every Sunday nights BET airs “religious” programs, which are apart of weekend inspirations. The program, which starts at midnight, promotes the ministry of Peter Popoff. “Who is Peter Popoff?” you ask. He is a German born televangelist who is known as a faith healer. He claims that Jesus Christ gave him the power to heal the sick by laying hands on them. On this program one can see Mr. Popoff approaching the sick and impoverished members of his audience, calling out their names and knowing all their ailments without them telling him.
More Drama For Obama
Two neo-Nazi skinheads were jailed on Monday October 27, 2008 after law-enforcement officials broke up their plot to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and shoot or behead 99 Black people, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives (ATF) said Monday (Bet News, 2008). The news of an assassination plot of Barack Obama is sad but not surprising. We still live in America. There is a great deal of citizens out there who would not like to see an African American in the Oval Office, especially one named Barack Obama.
VH1 Celebreality Spin Offs
VH1 has a lot of reality shows in its line up, but most of them are spin offs of another spin off. It all started with the third season of “The Surreal Life” starring Flavor Flav (William Jonathan Drayton Jr.) and Brigitte Nielsen. The two stars developed an on screen romance and this lead to VH1 developing a spin off called “Strange Love”. “Strange Love” focused on Nielsen and Flavor Flav’s relationship, which consisted of constant fighting and yelling.
Rick Ross Comes Clean
In Don Diva magazine the Miami emcee Rick Ross comes clean about being a corrections officer. According to Slava Kuperstein of HipHopDX.com “The Smoking Gun, in July 2008, produced details linking Ross' social security number to a two-year stint as a correctional officer in a Florida prison facility, along with a photograph purporting to be Ross in his correctional officer uniform.” Prior to the Don Diva interview, Rick Ross had denied the fact that was a corrections officer. He said that the picture was photo shopped and that it was posted by “Haters” jealous of his success.
VH1 Hip Hop Honorees
Every year VH1 Honors legendary hip hop artists. This years honorees are Cypress Hill, De La Sol, Naughty by Nature, Slick Rick and Too Short. All of these innovative artists were popular in the late 80’s and Early 90’s. Each one had a different style but they all were able to sell millions of records. Today in the Hip Hop game in order for an artist to sell they have to be imitators and not innovators. I commend VH1 for showing today’s youth that mainstream hip-hop music of the past was not saturated with the same types of emcees.
Obama Waffles
Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss are the creators of Obama Waffles. The two men from Franklin, Tennessee came up with the idea after over hearing a conversation about Obama. According to a Bet.com news article the box is “reminiscent of the old Aunt Jemima Box, Obama is portrayed with bulging white eyes and big ruby red lips.” The waffles were selling like “hotcakes” at the Values Voter Summit (a conservative political forum) before sales were cutoff for “offensive Material”.
